In the summer of 2010 I ran workshops at Epping Forest District Museum as part of my residency at the Museum (see exhibition page for more information).
During my residency I studied the art work of Walter Spradbery who lived on the edge of Epping Forest and whose work prolifically featured in travel posters for the London Underground during the 1910s-40s. Linking this with my interest in photography, the workshops involved creating cyanotype photograms (sunprints) in the style of travel posters. A variety of materials, including herbs from the museums garden, were used to create collages which acted at negatives in producing the sunprints; resulting in site-specific artworks which not only referenced a place in the participant’s minds but also the place the artwork was created.
